I love breastfeeding for a myriad of reasons, but when I have a new babe I make a point to lock myself away in the nursery and just sit in the quiet feeding… It’s nice to enjoy JUST them for those brief moments each day, and it’s great because I get to reflect on the many aspects of my life, and occasionally i get a brilliant idea. One day as I sat breastfeeding Artisan (he couldn’t have been more than a month old) I had the awesome idea for a scavenger hunt for Jeff. As I sat there I wrote out all the clues on a piece of paper. Once I finished I hid it under my jewelry box so that jeff wouldn’t find it (he’s great at accidently finding surprises that i’ve hidden away for him) but i figured he couldn’t possibly ever have a reason to look under there considering I do all the dusting….So anywho, there it sat for 5 months or so, just waiting for me to use it. Well December 7th I figured why not this will be fun, and spontaneous! So I typed up the clues and made little clue cards to hide at each location…..
Jeff had laid down and was trying to get to bed….I was originally gonna give jeff his first clue first thing in the morning (but i had hidden one on the toilet and didn’t want him getting up in the middle of the night and spoiling the whole adventure…..plus i was super excited to get this show on the road!) So I called out to him “jeff are you awake?” he half asleep replied “uh…yeah…what?” So I said “oh good” turned the light on and then handed him the clue and ordered him to put on his robe because he was gonna need to go outside at some point. He wasn’t super thrilled and tried talking me down at first, but it wasn’t long before he was smiling as he read each new clue and headed off to the next location! Heck it was like I was on the scavenger hunt too, because I had forgotten which clues were at which location and he wasn’t reading them out loud. Here are the clues as follows incase anyone is wanting to send their hunny on a scavenger hunt, although you could probably come up with much more clever clues than i did…..
Clue #1:
A contraption of sorts where correspondences are left to be taken then brought from the dearest of friends.
Clue #2:
Now lets keep this clean from your head to your toes. No clothes allowed here so I guess anything goes!
Clue #3:
No segregation where these keys are concerned, home of the simplest compilations performed.
Clue #4:
Next is the place where we stow weapons and victims. Just kidding, our chocolate and survivalish items!
Clue #5:
Okay that last one was creepy and a bit of a trek, perhaps there’s a place to rest that head on your neck!
Clue #6:
I bet this is where you hoped all this would end, but the smells that go here are the kind that offend.
Clue #7:
Oh good you knew the place I was talking about. The garments in here may just need a touch of “shout”.
Clue #8:
Wow! This thing is empty with our family of 5!?!? Now when baking up cookies the ingredients must MIX!
Clue #9:
Wait mix doesn’t rhyme with 5! But mix and 6, now that jives! Family member #6 coming soon!
I was so caught up in the moment and watching Jeff’s reaction that I didn’t get his reaction on camera, but he said “huh! Awesome!” and then we hugged, but here is him a few moments later. We’re gonna have 4 kids dawg!
Then we spent Christmas with my family, and Jeff opened this gift….
Yes I wrote ‘2014’ Partly because I have severe pregnancy brain, partly because I rushed through making it because we were getting ready to do gifts and I still hadn’t made the shirt so i ran in the other room and wrote it all real quick, wrapped it up and then we immediately began opening up gifts.
Everyone’s reactions were great, and again I missed getting everyone’s reactions on camera because my brain is mush…we texted this photo of the shirt to all of Jeff’s immediate family so we didn’t get to SEE their reactions. My sister-inlaw Amanda’s reaction was the greatest though. We skyped with her and Jesse later on Christmas day, and Jeff stood in front of the camera and we got to watch them decipher the message. They were both surprised but Amanda yelled “No! Stop it!”
Now the shirt says Summer 2014 but obviously I meant 2015. I say Summer generally because we really have no idea how far along I am. I could be due in July or I could be due in August. Since i was breastfeeding when we conceived I have no period or any indicator of how far along I am, other than the last negative pregnancy test that I took. I won’t be going in to see an OB until the 23rd of this month. As of right now I could be anywhere from 8 weeks to 15 weeks along…..so i could potentially be 18 or so weeks along at my first appointment. Usually we like to wait a little longer to announce pregnancy (considering i may only be 8 wks) but we were going to be spending Christmas with my family and heck there is no hiding this pregnancy belly. If i am only 8 weeks, there must be more than one in there because I am showing like crazy already…..Well that’s our good news, and we hope your 2015 is filled with health, wealth, and if you so desire BABIES lots and lots of babies!
