So my grandmother Dorothy Preece died last month, she was a beautiful lady inside and out!
My mother and her siblings were gonna be going through her belongings the night before the funeral. So my mom asked us kids if there was anything in particular that we wanted. I asked for some of her costume jewelry and maybe a dress of hers ( so that i could make Talynn a dress from it). My mom grabbed me a couple of her dresses, and today i made Talynn a dress with one of them!
There is plenty of fabric that I can make another dress and maybe a skirt or two, but for my first creation I wanted to keep the style somewhat similar. Being that the original dress is a bit of a (lets be honest here)…a moo moo (sp?) I though i could make it a tunic style, that she could wear leggings and boots with….
So first i cut the dress shape from the skirt of the dress, and cut the bottom 1/3 of the sleeves off (i like the cuff and button detail) to make the new sleeves from.
I then sewed up the sides, then the top of the shoulder straps. I then took a strip of elastic and sewed it into the collar. and attached the already made sleeves. I wanted to break up the pattern and make it less “moo moo’ish” so i took some pink ribbon i had on hand and sewed it straight down the front (off to one side a tad) with a folded effect to give it some texture. Taly loves it and i think this is something she’ll be able to wear for a while and perfect for the fall weather that is upon us! It was a nice quick project (I was able to whip it up while Taly and Artisan were napping).
She loved modeling her new look for me….
…a little B’n’W for the aspiring model!
On another note I LOVE how long and blonde Taly’s hair has gotten!
